Pandemic Analysis
A pandemic is an outbreak of a new diseases that affects several countries, or even continents, and a viral outbreak is defined as an epidemic if it is different from previous strains. On the other hand, an epidemic is a more localized outbreak of a disease that affects a smaller portion of the population. COVID-19 started as an empidemic affecting the population in China. As it spread beyond its borders, it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
We have decided to perform an analysis on this current crisis that is affecting all countries worldwide. We examined the amount of cases and deaths that have been reported for every country, as well as compared the amount of cases per state within the United States. Moreover, we compared the gender demographics and death rates for people infected with this virus. Finally, we performed an analysis on Ebola virus disease and the 2014 epidemic, to compare the characteristics between an epidemic and pandemic for these two viruses.
